Active extension tubes are placed between the capsule and microphone amplifier. This enables the microphones to be placed unobtrusively in the orchestra without interfering with sight lines.
At the head end of the SR 1450 BOC is a gooseneck which allows the capsule to be aimed as desired. The other end has a threaded receptacle for the microphone amplifier (e.g. CMC 1).
A complete assembly would consist of an MK capsule (e. g. MK 22, MK 4 or MK 41) with B 1 D or B 5 D pop screen, the SR 1450 BOC and a CMC microphone amplifier (CMC 1 U, CMC 1 L or CMC 6 U). This would be attached to an STR vertical support rod of any desired length via an RG 8 swivel joint (included with the SR 1450 BOC), while the STR is supported by a BF 250 weighted floor stand (perhaps placed on an SM 270 foam mat for further isolation from floor vibrations).
